MARLON KING: ‘I AM NOT A THUG’

ABOVE: Marlon King says he's not a thug after being released from jail
31st July 2010

By Paul Robins

MARLON King has denied being a woman-hater after his release from jail for breaking a girl’s nose.

The former Wigan ace served just half of his 18-month sentence for brutally assaulting a girl who snubbed his advances.

But the 30-year-old striker reckons he was not guilty all along. He said: “The public perception of me is wrong. I’m not the person they think I am.

“I have had time in jail to think and analyse the situation that I found myself in, and my loved ones. It’s unfair that I put them through this.”

King was convicted of punching 21-year-old Emily Carr to the floor at a nightclub in London’s Soho after groping her.

The student was left with a broken nose and split lip but King claimed he was a victim of mistaken identity and plans to appeal. He told Sky Sports News: “I have always protested my innocence. It’s been really frustrating.

“There are discrepancies in the evidence.”

His agent Tony Finnigan said “a number of teams” were interested in a deal.
