FUEL tanker drivers are threatening to strike if oil companies don’t stop cutting jobs and slashing pay.

The union Unite has written to supermarket chains, oil companies and other firms, warning drivers were being forced into conflict.

National secretary Ron Webb said yesterday: “We have warned oil employers that attacking wages and squeezing more and more out of their drivers – but giving them less and less in return – will backfire.

“They have not listened so now we are at a very dangerous moment for this sector.”

Mr Webb added: “I have never witnessed such low morale among the drivers.”

Unite is blaming the pay and job cuts on outside contractors doing the job cheaper.
